Junior and Senior Infants
The AISTEAR topic for the month was ‘minibeasts’. We have been learning about all kinds of minibeasts from the tiny ant to the beautiful butterfly. We went on a minbeast hunt around our school grounds and found worms, woodlice, bees, ladybirds and centipedes. We painted symmetrical butterflies which look lovely and colourful.
With our buddies in 5th & 6th class we planted carrot and turnip seeds and look forward to seeing them grow.
We presented an assembly in which we gave thanks to God for our food and talked about sharing and what we have with others.
To tie in with our school’s International Day we have been learning about Australia and completed Aboriginal dot art paintings. On the day itself all the Infants enjoyed themselves thoroughly as they got their passport stamped and visited many different countries, tasting all kinds of food and learning about the nationalities of our world.
February was another activity filled month in the Infant classroom. Our AISTEAR topic was Spring and we really enjoyed learning about all the signs of spring – From the buds on the trees outside to the beautiful daffodils we saw blooming in our school garden. We also took a peek into our hedgehog house to see if we had any visitors!
We presented an assembly based on the story of the Wise Man and the Foolish Man. The Infants sung two songs for the school and parents, as well as sharing ideas for how we can have good, strong foundations in our lives. We are focusing on the word ‘caring’ and showing how we can be caring everyday in school to each other.
The boys and girls completed their PE lessons in ‘Futsal’ and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
We made some beautiful Valentine’s Day Art with our 5th/6th class buddies as well as lovely Valentine Day cards.
Junior and Senior Infants have had another busy month this January. On returning to school we presented an assembly and our theme was “Thank God for winter”. We thought about the New Year and new beginnings. Our AISTEAR topic for January has been food and healthy eating. We each made a food pyramid to help remember what’s healthy to eat. We have been really enjoying our ‘Futsal’ P.E classes in which we are learning football skills, including dribbling and goal scoring!
Today we went on a lovely nature walk to spot signs of spring.
