The BNS Hockey programme is entering its 9 th year since it was started back in September 2012 by a small group of parents who wanted to provide hockey coaching in a fun environment allowing an outlet for a team sport in our small school.

The programme consists of one hour weekly coaching on Friday nights at the pitch in St Andrew’s College from 7pm-8pm and is available for boys and girls from Senior Infants to 6th Class.

In addition to the coaching, the older groups partake in matches against other schools. Our senior girls team (5 th and 6 th class) enter the Leinster Junior schoolgirls league  and both the senior boys and girls participate in a local schools tournament organised by Railway Union. Our 3rd & 4th class girls and boys take part in a series of local school blitzes at Railway Union Hockey Club and play matches against St Matthews, St Killian’s, Sandford Parish, St Andrew’s and Kildare Place School. We also organise matches/blitzes for our 2nd class teams depending on numbers. We are indebted to our parent coaches (Jayson Kenny, Wendy Porter, Sarah Hiles, Stephen Fraser, Charlie Carroll and Steve Hiles), who give up their time each week on a voluntary basis. In addition, we also have 4 enthusiastic Junior Hockey coaches. We are very grateful to Steve Hiles, the BNS Hockey Co-ordinator for providing this programme.

This is also a great social occasion for parents at the side of the hockey pitch!
